What is Curcumin?

Curcumin is a yellow pigment found primarily in turmeric, a flowering plant of the ginger family best known as a spice in curry and used traditionally in Ayurveda medicine.   It is a polyphenol with anti-inflammatory properties and the ability to increase the number of antioxidants that the body produces.

What is the difference between Turmeric and Curcumin?

Turmeric is a root/spice that contains curcuminoids, which are bioactive compounds, and curcumin is one of these curcuminoid compounds.   While turmeric contains only 2-5% of curcuminoids, 75% of these active curcuminoids are curcumin, so turmeric is less potent than a source of curcumin than an extract and anti-inflammatory.   This is why curcumin is the “star” of turmeric.

How is curcumin absorbed into the body?

Most curcumin products in the market use piperine (an active ingredient in black pepper) and/or a source of fat to make curcumin easily absorbed by the bloodstream and bypass the liver.   This is because curcumin has low bioavailability in nature. GN Nano Curcumin is currently the only all-natural supplement that has the best efficacy through solubility, stability, permeability, and metabolism.   No additives or enhancers are added.
